Did you know that the mating calls from a gathering of male cicadas can exceed 100 decibels (about as loud as a car stereo at max volume), and can be heard by female cicadas up to a mile away? In fact, confused female cicadas have been known to swarm around humans using outdoor power tools, due to the loud noise they produce. That level of noise is considered dangerous to humans, especially with prolonged exposure. Perhaps we should have developed some special edition “Mack’s Cicada Earplugs”.
